Salt commissioned Studio Yellowdot to design their first edition of gifts and stationery for the Turkish art and cultural institution.

Archive I/O by Studio Yellowdot

Studio Yellowdot delves into the hidden world of computational language with Archive I/O, a concept developed for Salt, known for its vast digital archival collections focusing on art, architecture, design, urban studies, and social and economic history.

Archive I/O is centered around an imaginary library of archive folders, arranged to symbolize the binary code—either ‘I’ (filled) or ‘O’ (empty)—representing the 1s and 0s that computers use to process data. The design forms a matrix of four lines, spelling out ‘Salt,’ offering a creative interpretation of the universal yet often unseen language of computation.

Technology has an increasingly vital role in society, and Archive I/O aims to highlight the interplay between past and present, reflecting Salt’s essential function in the digital age.

A collection including a soft-cover notebook, enamel pin, tote bag and archive folder were designed for the Archive I/O collection.

The Archive I/O series can be found at Robinson Crusoe 389 Bookstore in Salt Beyoğlu and Salt Galata.
