'What if you can enjoy cooking 'en plein air' without causing any pollution?' Solari is a next-generation fuel-free, pollution-free, portable solar cooker that can be used to cook anywhere there is sunlight offering an alternative possibility for outdoor cooking.
Using materials technology such as fresnel lens, heat transfer, and insulation - food is directly heated up and kept warm inside the solar oven 'slow-cooker' style. A rotating pivot allows the cooker to be directed towards the sun's path and transform into a carry handle. An app displays the internal cooking temperature through a wireless temperature sensor to ensure that food is cooked.
Designed by Bodin Hon during his master's studies at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, the project was awarded the first Compasso d'oro International award by the Italian Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI) under the theme 'Design for Food & Nutrition' in 2015 with a grant for development. From the initial concept, the design was further engineered and developed into a series of working prototypes that can reach a cooking temperature of ~75°C via the startup Project Solari Co (USA).
The project was exhibited internationally at design biennales & museums for its innovative approach to sustainable cooking.
